Did you know there are characteristics and ‘power colours’ associated with each sign of the Zodiac? Here are some ideas to help you decorate your home to reflect your Zodiac personality.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Earth sign Capricorn is associated with practicality, stability, and traditionalism. The power colours for Capricorns are grey – a combination of the extremes of black and white to bring balance. Grey and brown can be a sophisticated palette for any room. Add interest by incorporating different textures in complementary shades, and lean into your practical nature with shelves to keep everything in its place.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

It’s all about blue for the water sign Aquarius. Blue is an incredibly versatile colour, as it can be soft and dreamy, fresh and clear, or strong and striking. This means you can use different shades in every room of your house, should you so wish. Aquarians are creative people but can often be restless, and blue is said to be calming and promote experimentation, helping ideas and conversation to flow.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Pisces is also a water sign but represents a transition period into spring. This zodiac sign’s power colour is pale green. Associated with healing, renewal, and rejuvenation, pale green is another colour that would provide a soothing yet invigorating backdrop to any room. Use mint, pistachio, and pale apple or even lime in modern kitchens, new bathrooms, nurseries, and hallways.

Aries (March 21 –April 19)

Fiery Aries is a passionate and dynamic sign, full of energy and purpose. The colour which best embodies these qualities is undoubtedly red. Like Aries, red will not be ignored and provokes strong reactions. Large doses of red can be overpowering, so we suggest painting or papering a feature wall in your favourite shade of red or introducing the colour through accessories and art.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Taurus is an earth sign associated with nature, growth, and progress, so we suggest bringing the outside in. Incorporate house plants into your home, and take inspiration from the outside world with fresh grass greens and floral prints.

Gemini (May 20 – June 20)

Air sign Gemini is actually heavily associated with the sun, light, brilliance, and curiosity. To mimic these qualities, Geminis should use yellow. Warm and bright, yellow can be cozy and comforting when it is a marigold, honey, or butterscotch shade, but also light and subtle if you go for a banana or lemon tone. Either way, it is an instant mood brightener.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Often associated with intuition and clarity, water sign cancer is more concerned with the reflective and transparent qualities of water and favours white and silver. Use clean white walls and bedding, lots of natural light, and mirrors to maximize space and openness and provide a blank slate. Cancerians also feel connected to the moon and may wish to incorporate crescent moons into their interior design.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Leo is a fire sign but is far more temperate than Aries. Instead, Leo is connected to royalty, class, warmth, and generosity. Naturally, Leo’s power colour is gold. A more luxe version of yellow, gold is also versatile if you can get the right shade. Careful, though; an excess of gold can backfire and end up looking cheap, so be sure to pair gold with a contrasting shade such as garnet or emerald, or use it as an accent colour against white for a more modern take.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Virgo is an earth sign and is a mix of green and brown, symbolizing both stability and growth. Use lots of natural woods and more muddy greens than Taurus; think olive, khaki, and sage. Virgos should also think about plants but should look at aloe vera or small trees such as bonsai.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Libra is airy, soft, and open; think pastel pinks, pale blues, and lilacs to symbolize the fusion of a clear mind and a loving heart. If you are using this colour scheme for a bedroom, incorporate floaty fabrics such as muslin to capture the sense of a soft breeze.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Water sign Scorpio is dark, intense, and mysterious, so it’s no surprise that its power colour is black. Associated with death and magic, black can make a small room seem tiny, so be careful how you use it, perhaps pairing it with smoky charcoals to create a more three-dimensional look, which is not quite so oppressive.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Last but not least, Sagittarius is a fire sign but is seen as spiritual and philosophical, whilst also being associated with luck and abundance. Sagittarius’ power colour is purple. Due to its associations with enlightenment and openness, purple is an excellent choice for a bedroom or a meditation room.

Happy decorating!
