Reviewing my calendar and writing down all the important tasks, Alison Corey, Founder of KeepingThePeas

Alison Corey
  • As a mom and female entrepreneur, I have to begin my day early in order to set myself up for a productive day ahead.
  • I wake up at 5:30 am, while the rest of my family is still asleep. I begin my day with 15-20 minutes of yoga followed by at least 5 minutes of meditation in which I focus on my breath.
  • Then I sit down at my desk and review my calendar for the day. I make adjustments as needed. For example, if I didn’t finish a particular task the day before, I put that at the top of my calendar. If I have any appointments I need to work around, I make a note of that
  • Keeping a paper planner beside my computer in which I write down all the tasks that need to be completed within a week helps me stay on track so that by the end of the day, I don’t feel like I haven’t gotten anything done, and by the end of the week, I’m not overwhelmed, or behind.
  • After I review my calendar and make any necessary adjustments. I take out a small book called “Do One Thing Every Day That Centers You: A Mindfulness Journal.” Each page has a quote and writing prompt that is meant to inspire, reflect, and move forward.
  • It only takes about 5 minutes, but it helps to set a new intention for each day and begin with a bit of reflection either on where I have been or where I want to go with my personal life as well as my business.

By the time I’m able to complete this personal reset each morning, the rest of the family is starting to wake up, and then it’s time for me to get them up and dressed and ready for the day. Once my kids are off to school, then the real work of the day begins!

Jumpstart the day with music and stretching exercise, Lisa Van Groningen Founder of Your Mom Village

  • As a busy Mom entrepreneur with kids at home, I like to make my morning the most productive it can be.
  • This means starting on the right foot and tackling the most demanding household task first thing in the morning. I love to jumpstart my day with positive, uplifting music and try to have my exercise done before 10 am.
  • I have a favorite affirmation that I say to myself often and refer to when I struggle with self-doubt. It is this “Everything I do serves a purpose for my family.” It helps to recenter me when I feel mom’s guilt.
  • My morning starts after my affirmation. Before breakfast, I load laundry into the machine. While the laundry is going, I make breakfast, and the kids eat.

  • While kids play after breakfast, I listen to my music and clean up breakfast, including cooking and wiping down the kitchen.
  • With two of the most demanding tasks out of the way, I can focus on my business during naps and quiet time. But starting my day off with a positive affirmation of my purpose creates a joyful morning and a more harmonious mindset before working on my business in the afternoon.
  • I prefer reading Affirmations for Happiness: 200 Affirmations for a Joyful Mindset Every Day – eBook By Kelsey Aida Roulades.

Meditation keeps the mind calm and sharp, Nadia McDannels, Founder of Whichdiapersarethebest

  • Morning is so crucial for me. It’s when I’m at my most productive and the house is most peaceful! I wake up at 4–5 am, have a large glass of water with lemon.
  • To really get my energy up, I spend 5 minutes jumping on a mini trampoline and doing some yoga.
  • I then spend 10 minutes meditating – it’s my not-so-secret key to being productive – and then I’ll sit down with my laptop and start work for the day, along with a freshly made smoothie for a vitamin kick.
  • By this time, my Mind’s feeling sharp, I’m hydrated and ready to cross off my to-do list for the day!

  • Many people swear by starting the day with affirmations, but I’ve never really found that this works for me. Meditation is what really gets me ready for the long day ahead. I do like reading positive books before work though if I have the time.
  • I love to read in the morning, and I just finished Steven Covey’s book, ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families, and I’m currently reading Medical Medium by Anthony Williams.
  • The role healthy food plays in jumpstarting your day is just amazing, and Medical Medium is all about healing and energizing with the right foods. I know there’s no way I’d be so productive if I didn’t stick to a healthy lifestyle!

I start the day with a bowl of fruit, which my husband made, Malaika Boysen Haaning, Founder of Malaika New York

Malaika Boysen Haaning
  • I am a twin mom and an entrepreneur, so my morning is always hectic, but I somehow manage to meditate for a few minutes right after I shower to get my head straight.
  • My husband makes a bowl of fruit and a cup of green tea for me as he takes care of the kids when they wake up, and when he gets ready, I get them ready for school.
  • I make sure to walk them to daycare whenever possible so that I can get 1 hour of exercise into my busy schedule.
  • I have had to do this as I don’t prioritize myself but more my kids and my business, so this is an amazing way to get my exercise into my routine, and it’s about 18K a week.
  • The way that I work was inspired by the book that I am currently reading, “The one thing” by Gary W. Keller Jay Papasan.
  • Every Monday morning, I make a to-do list for the week and another list for the day to prioritize. I have found that this makes my day more productive compared to the large to-do list I was working on before.
  • I block out at least 4 hours a day to do the top priority of my “one thing” of the day or the week. I turn off my phone, close down my email, and all other distractions such as social media, and I have found that I get the most done in those 4 hours where I am 100% focused.

Never procrastinate when it comes to your success, Andrea Marcellus Creator of the AND/life app

Andrea-Marcellus
  • My morning starts in one of two ways: most days, I’m up very early so I can get to the office and spend at least 30 or so minutes on a goal-oriented task before tackling emails or to-dos. One day each week, I reserve for being a “full-on mom.” I wake up with my kids, spend the morning with them, and drive them to school.
  • Either way, the first hour or so of the morning is always an enriching time that keeps me focused on the big picture. Start your day with a high-priority item that pushes your goals forward before you even look at your to-do list. The idea of clearing the decks of small, manageable tasks may be tempting. Still, often it’s just procrastination disguised as busyness.
  • Success comes from focusing your first effort of the day on things that matter most, not the small stuff – which, when you think about it, is often responding to other people and pushing THEIR ball forward. Proper self-care is about prioritizing what matters to you most and starting each day with clarity and purpose-focused by the lens of goal fulfillment, not to-do’s.
  • Establishing the discipline to tackle hard, consequential things over less essential matters will ensure that you either get to your goals or create opportunities. Either way, it prevents you from spinning your wheels and wondering where the day went!
  • I jump-start my day with my favorite coffee, and I put myself together, always, even on weekends. I have a morning routine I call seven minutes to self-respect: I take three minutes to do my hair, two minutes for a little splash of makeup, two minutes to put on my uniform, which is always jeans and a top and boots or sandals that I love. It’s not about vanity; It’s about generating energy.
  • We’re always more energized when we feel like we look our best (or at least put together). I think it’s a huge mistake in life to put your best foot forward for strangers as opposed to yourself and the people most important to you. Putting myself together each day ensures I generate some positive energy about myself, for myself, so that I’m feeling great right from the start, and I have that positive energy to give to others.
  • I don’t have an affirmation I say to myself each morning. I just stick to my routine. My routine is my affirmation. It’s like telling myself each morning, “You’re in charge, no matter what comes at you today.” That’s a great mental space to be in every morning.
  • I have so little time; my favorite books during the workweek are ones where you can turn to any page and find a kernel of inspiration for the day. I designed my book The Way In 5 Winning Strategies to Lose Weight, Get Strong & Lift Your Life to be chock full of inspirational, fun facts that are set aside by eye-catching graphics for this very reason. My thought was that busy folk could literally flip through the book and find something to lift their lives in a small way that very day. Flip enough pages, and even if you never read it cover to cover, you’ll have gained a lot!

I Supercharge my day with oat milk, Veena Crownholm, Red Carpet Host, Lifestyle Influencer, Millennial Mom

Veena Crownholm, Publicist and Head of Social Media
  • I’m a mom of two and an entrepreneur, so my morning tends to be hectic and busy.
  • Some of the ways I make my morning more productive is by waking up, swapping coffee/caffeine for a supercharged oat milk MudWatr latte that is full of adaptogenic mushroom compounds that are immune-boosting, turmeric and ginger to reduce inflammation, and so much more.
  • The idea is that you don’t need to practice mindfulness but that you are mindful. You are responsible for who you are, and when you find a lack of happiness or issues with your ego, you have to go within.
  • Next, get your heart pumping, so whether that’s walking the dog and baby in the am, a quick 10 min Peloton ride, or jump roping for 2 min…I get my endorphins pumping, followed by a quick excerpt or soundbite from “The Way In” by Barry Long. He is thought-provoking in that he challenges you to discover where unchangeable happiness resides….and that is within you.
  • I always love this book, with easy-to-implement analogies for life, and I’m ready for my day! My current favorite affirmation is I am enough, I am worthy, and I am a vessel of love.

The Mompreneur Takeaway

By creating a morning routine, you are actually putting yourself first. Hence it’s important to understand that a productive morning routine ensures that you are in good alignment with your health, your family, and your business.
