You may be looking at that title and thinking, what is this about? Is she a crazy person? The answer to that is possible, but a good kind of crazy!

Anyway, this article is about being able to find ways to lift your spirits, to keep moving forward even when you are presented with huge obstacles, to allow yourself to make mistakes, learn from them and move on.

As adults, we often forget how to have fun, how to embrace the beautiful and simple joys that surround us. Children are experts at this, and we could learn so much from them. Have you ever watched a child jump in a puddle and seen the overwhelming joy that they feel when the water splashes back on them? The awe that they experience when they see their first snowfall – these simple yet beautiful things that will lift your spirit and let it soar!

Sorry did I wander off track, but you get my point, right? That as adults, we have forgotten how to soothe our soul, how to forgive ourselves and accept that we are only human after all.

Life is short and having fun is crucial to living a beautiful one!

9 Top Ideas To Create Your Own Sunshine

1. Get Outside In The Fresh Air Whatever The Weather

No matter what the weather is like, get outside. It really makes us appreciate the glorious world we live in, and it will help to lighten your mood.

Nature is magical, and even in the rain and snow, it just makes it a more wondrous world. When was the last time that you took the time to truly experience it? The smells, the colors, felt the wind on your face and splashed in the puddles like a kid…it will truly lift your spirits!

2. Have Fun – Play A Game, Swing on the swings

Do you even remember the last time that you had some fun, played hide and seek, jumped on a swing, and soared? There is no better feeling of freedom that soaring higher and higher on a swing! Childish – maybe, stress-reducing – definitely!

Life is often stressful, and the repetitiveness of everyday life can certainly crush most people’s spirits at some point in their life.

3. Reach Out to Someone

When I start to feel that life is getting a little too much, I often reach out to a friend or relative and connect with them. Catch up with an old friend. Grab a coffee with your partner, mom, or dad.

Send a little gift, not for any reason other than you want to. It could be a funny gift that just reminded you of them. Not only will it make you feel 100% better but imagine how good the person receiving it will feel when they open it!

4. Be Thankful

I know that you will no doubt have heard this a thousand times. But the reason for that is that it actually works! Regularly listing three things that you are grateful for automatically sets your brain to a positive mindset. You could make it part of your morning ritual when you sit down with your coffee, list three things that you are grateful for that day. You could always share your list with a close friend or even your partner/spouse.

No matter which way to decide to incorporate gratitude into your life, it has been proven that those who have a gratitude practice experience far higher levels of both positivity and happiness.

5. What’s your Why?

Everyone has a why. It may be the reason that you started your own business, why you do the job you do, live where you do. And that why is what helps you get out of bed every day and especially on those days when you want to just pull the covers over your head and hide!

I have met many people who have told me they don’t have a why; they are just getting through one day at a time. It might well feel like that, and if you feel this way, no worries, try thinking about it differently. So, what touches your heart, what sparks the fire inside you, what do you want people to remember you for. Now try telling me that you have no why.

6. Let Go Of Control

Many of us struggle with letting go of control, and this can often steal the sunshine from your life. But every single person on earth needs to understand that sometimes you need to let go, to accept that you can not control everything and that often you need to just let things happen and trust that it will always get better!

7. Try Something New

Like I’ve said, our lives often become a little bit like Groundhog Day. To break that cycle, it is good to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. It could be a new hobby, a new restaurant, a new job; you never know where it could lead you.

8. Leave The Baggage Behind you

If there is one thing in this world that will steal the sunshine from your life, it is holding on to the past. You need to accept your mistakes, learn from them, and then move on. This can be one of the hardest things that we learn to do as adults. But if you don’t, holding on to the past will eat away at the better present and future you are creating.

9. Set Yourself Goals

What do you want to achieve in your life? I’m not talking about huge goals but the little goals that get you closer and closer to that big goal. Try setting yourself small manageable goals and see how your perspective changes.

The Final Thought

Making your own sunshine may not be as easy for some people as it is for others. We have no clue what people have going on in their lives or what goes on behind closed doors. But being able to create your own happy place gives you the tools to overcome obstacles and move forward to be a better version of yourself – go make your sunshine happen!
