Bloat….one of the most urghhhhh feelings, that too-full feeling in your stomach is quite uncomfortable. Bloat happens when your stomach and intestines become swollen with fluid or gas.

Food and drink contribute to much of the gas that people experience, along with consuming large meals, menstruation, and constipation. Do you have underlying health issues? Do you believe that you bloat because of something that you ate? This is not always the cause. If everything that you eat seems to cause gas, or you have too much gas all the time for no specific reason, there could be health issues at stake. Possible health issues include but are not limited to acid reflux (irritated esophagus), hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome (overly active nerves connected to bowels), and celiac disease.

Carbohydrates, you either love them, or you do not. They are often avoided when fat loss- is a goal. Carbohydrates are used as building blocks of fuel for athletes.

In some people, eating even small amounts of carbohydrates can cause bloating. This is carbohydrate intolerance. Simply put, it is your body’s inability to metabolize carbohydrates normally. The rate at which carbohydrates enter the bloodstream depends on its DNA make-up.

Simple carbohydrates enter the bloodstream almost immediately. These include candy, pastries, white bread, and soft drinks. Carbohydrates that take longer to digest do not enter the bloodstream as quickly. These are complex carbohydrates, which include: vegetables, fruit, and grains.

Lactose, an uneasy to digest dairy sugar found in dairy products, such as milk and ice cream, cause bloating and stomach pain for people intolerable to it. This condition is not serious, and discomfort can be easily avoided by simply avoiding milk products. Unlike having a lactose allergy, an allergy to dairy, where the body’s immune system treats lactose like a dangerous invader, causes bloody stools, vomiting, and hives.

Carbonated drinks are a very common cause of bloat. These types of liquid refreshments contain high amounts of gas, carbon dioxide. Large amounts of gas are consumed upon beverage consumption, which gets trapped in the digestive system that causes distressed bloating. Swap carbonated drinks for water, coffee, tea, or fruit-flavored still water.

Move Your Body

Exercise can help to reduce and eliminate bloat with blood flow and circulation promotion. A brisk run, a nice long walk, a bike ride, yoga, or a few minutes on the elliptical will help to depress bloat. Physical activity such as this will help expel gas that causes pain and help move digestion along. Aim for 30 minutes of mild to moderate exertion.
