The COVID-19 pandemic has taken the world by surprise – just a year ago, no one would have suspected that in a year’s time the whole world will be dealing with a virus that killed more than 200,000 people so far, and made huge cities which were once full of life look like a scene from an apocalyptic movie.

In these challenging times, it’s important to care about others. However, you also cannot forget about yourself – taking care of your mind and body is crucial. It’s just like with an oxygen mask in a plane. If there was to be any kind of turbulence, and the oxygen would fall out, you need to take care of yourself first, so that you can help others. While this metaphor might be overused, there’s no denying that it’s true.

So how can you take care of yourself while a global pandemic is going on? Well, you just have to keep reading if you want to find out.

1. Find a Way To Release Stress

The pandemic is a stressful situation for everyone. The politicians are doing all they can to make sure that the virus won’t spread faster. The medical staff is risking their lives on an everyday basis to save others. Ordinary people also have to deal with stress, as they don’t know if their employer will be able to give them a salary or if they will still have their job in a few weeks.

While it’s normal to stress in times like this, sometimes you need to take a break from it – you might not know it, but stress can worsen your both mental and physical health problems, disrupt your sleeping schedule or create problems with concentration.

So how can you release the stress you experience? There are several ways to do it – which you’ll choose depends entirely on what you want. Those include:

  • Taking a break from the media – hearing news stories from left to right about COVID-19 will not make you less stress, but the contrary
  • Making time to unwind – find time to do some other activities, such as knitting, singing, dancing, or whatever you enjoy doing
  • Connecting with others – keep in mind that everyone is going through the same thing; the current situation is something that affects all the people, which is why talking with them will definitely do you go, as they will be able to relate

One of the most pleasurable ways in which you can relieve stress is by having sex, as it raises the level of endorphins in your organism, which are responsible for putting you in a good mood. While we know that meeting with your partner can be challenging during social distancing, there are other ways in which you can reach an orgasm and release the hormones – for example, there are tons of dildos that vibrate available on the internet.

2. Exercise Your Body and Body

While being locked up at home for several weeks might not be how you imagined spending 2020, you need to look for positives – for example, you can devote this time to exercise your body. Do some yoga, or if you prefer something more energetic, try joining a Zumba class. If you are too lazy to do a whole workout, you can try doing individual exercises while doing everyday activities – do some squats while watching the commercials on the TV, or stay in a plank position while reading a book.

If you have children, then you don’t really need to add extra workout – instead, find some games which involve physical activity and play with them. Not only will it be an excellent exercise for you, but also playing together strengthens the bond you have with them.

However, your body is not the only thing that you can exercise – of equal importance is exercising your mind. You can do it by reading books, or playing games that require you to put your mind into use, such as Scrabble or chess. Crosswords and sudoku are also a great choice.

3. Take Care Of Yourself

If you never really had time to take care of yourself, because you had so many things to do, this might be your chance. Devote one evening only to yourself – do a face mask, paint your nails, or just watch a movie with a glass of wine. Choose whatever makes you feel better – after all, in these tough times, everyone deserves at least a moment to lay back and relax.

Final Thoughts

There’s no denying that the situation the world is currently in is not usual. However, you cannot let it take over your life – instead, try looking for positives. Maybe you finally have time to watch this movie that you bought over two years ago and never had a chance to see? Or perhaps you never got around to use the face mask that you received months ago as a gift? Now’s your time!

The way in which you choose to spend your time during the pandemic and lockdown is entirely up to you. The only thing that we can say is – stay safe and practice social distancing!
