  • Do you know someone who always seems happy with a radiant smile no matter what seems to happen around them?
  • Have you ever noticed their positive energy creates a ripple effect and just by speaking with them, it can make you happy and uplift you?
  • Have you ever met someone no matter what life throws at them, they always seem to come back stronger than before?

“Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient.” ― Steve Maraboli

These resilient beings have been even more visible during the pandemic because they have been able to cope more effectively, and they can adapt quickly to change.

Some people can stay positive regardless of obstacles in their lives and that’s because they have mastered six key elements to be able to remain positive in negative situations:

6 Tips to Stay Positive in A Negative Situation

1. Gratitude:

When you can tap into the art of appreciation, even the most challenging obstacle can become easier to overcome. Starting a gratitude practice is very quick and simple. It can take as little as five minutes per day. In the morning, write five things you appreciate in your life in a gratitude journal. Before bedtime, write five things you have accomplished during the day. It’s important to celebrate your accomplishments. It doesn’t need to be big things. It can even be that you went to the gym when you did not want to go. When you appreciate all the little things in your life, you will have an abundance or growth mindset, as opposed to a scarcity or a fixed mindset. Even when life seems challenging, when you redirect your focal point to a positive mindset, your life will be filled with happiness.

2. Meditate:

We cannot control what happens around us, but we can control our reactions to events. When we go within and let go of things we have no control over, our life becomes easier to navigate. I always say: “You cannot control storms, but you can learn to sail in high winds.” If you struggle with meditation, try yoga. It will have the same healing benefits as meditation.

3. Immerse yourself in positivity:

Declutter your environment. Let go of anything that triggers unhappy memories. Did you recently lose weight but you are holding on to the old clothes too big for you? Did you let go of a relationship but you are holding on to objects, letters, pictures, notes but every time you see them, they bring sadness? Place motivational quotes on your wall. Read a book. Listen to a podcast or uplifting music. Watch empowering motivational videos. Immerse your subconscious mind daily in positivity and you will notice a shift in your mood, and your level of happiness will increase.

4. Surround yourself with people who inspire you:

Jim Rohn says: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Ever notice how certain people drain your energy while others uplift you? Make sure you keep your inner circle tight and only let in those who inspire you in becoming the best version of yourself. Keep those people close.

5. Exercise:

It releases endorphins which alleviates pain and can make you feel good. Regular exercise has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety and improve your overall well-being. Concentrating on exercising will take your mind off things that are causing discomfort in your life. When you are weight training, you are focusing on reps and sets. While you are counting, you are thinking of numbers, not the hundreds of thoughts entering your mind.

6. Smile:

Be the person you want to become. If you are feeling sad, try smiling. Every morning and evening after you brush your teeth, smile at yourself in the mirror. It will give you a boost of happiness. If you’re having a challenging day, find funny videos online and watch them. It will help move the trapped negative energy.
