As a part of the Morning Lazziness series about strong women leaders who attained success with their passion, I had the pleasure of interviewing Amber Wang.

Glamour, fashion, and stardom. That is what one thinks of when they imagine the life of a successful, high fashion model in today’s society. However, have you ever wondered what happens behind the curtain? What does it take to become one of the top models in the industry? We interviewed high fashion model Amber Wang to get an inside look at the day in the life of a high fashion model.

Amber is a successful high fashion model who represents strength, determination, intelligence, and beauty for young women around the world. On top of making her mark in the fashion industry, Amber recently graduated from Pennsylvania State University. While juggling a high-profile career and her studies, Amber remained consistent and hardworking to achieve her goals. It is her objective to change the modeling industry by promoting her passion for sustainable fashion and empowering other women.

What is your morning routine? Do you have any specific beauty products you love or recommend?

The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to drink a lot of water. Then coffee! Afterward, I make sure to get my face and skin healthy by using Facegym. Like our body, our face needs its own form of exercise too. I start by cleansing, moisturizing, and gua sha. I will then move into using the Facegym specific tools. First, I use the facelift tool to help lift the face and give my skin a more toned appearance. Then, I use the relaxing face ball. It is like cardio for my skin!

Do you have a favorite workout routine currently?

One of my favorite ways to work out is to put on runway music and walk on the treadmill for 20 mins. It’s fun, beneficial, and keeps me moving.

Do you have any “go-to” recipes/restaurants for meals throughout the day?

Right now, I am loving Sweetgreen! It delivers healthy, fresh food right to your door so I can make easy but delicious meals. I like to add mushrooms, chicken, and spicy broccoli to the recipes for some extra flavor and nutrients.

What does your typical workday look like?

The day before a shoot, I will make sure to eat light, healthy meals and drink a lot of water. I will spend a little extra time on my skincare routine and will always make sure to hit the gym.

The morning of the photoshoot, I will wrap ice in a towel and apply it to my face, helping to give me a bright and fresh look. I arrive at the shoot a few hours early to meet the team and get my hair and make-up done. I will usually shoot in around 8 different looks, so it can take the entire day to finish. Throughout the shoot, I listen to the guidance of the photographer telling me how to look, pose, etc. I feel like a whole new person when I am shooting. I feel strong and powerful! At the end of a long day of shooting, I will grab one of my favorite dinners (usually chicken or fish) and head home.

What do you do on your days off?

I’m a Gemini, so I am constantly keeping busy and trying new things. Currently, I love to listen to audiobooks. My favorite platform right now is Blinkist. They have a great selection of informational books that help me learn about a variety of topics. Another passion of mine is cooking. I love to try new recipes! I will also spend time creating content for my Youtube channel and Tiktok.

How do you prepare for photoshoots/jobs/etc..?

I prepare by focusing on keeping my mind, skin, and body healthy every day. I always want to feel confident and prepared for an opportunity at any moment. These things don’t happen overnight, so I make sure to include skincare, exercise, and healthy eating into my daily routine, so it builds up over time.

How do you prioritize tasks?

With COVID, I prioritize tasks based on location. I want to minimize travel as much as possible at this point, so I am more likely to work on projects that are closer to home.

What advice would you give to the aspiring models out there?

My biggest piece of advice for an aspiring model would be to never give up. It is not uncommon to receive a lot of no’s before you get a yes. In the beginning, I got a lot of rejections. However, I pushed myself to keep trying. Every interview and casting gave me valuable experience that helped me get to where I am today.

What are some tips you can share on how to be a successful model and make it in the industry?

Be yourself. You are unique and beautiful. Let that shine through in all you do. People love to see the real, authentic you.

What are your favorite go-to brands? Fashion designers? And why?

Currently, I love Reformation. It is a French-based brand, so when I wear it, I always feel like I am in Paris.
