Unsatisfying careers. Volatile, unhealthy relationships. Unfulfilled dreams. Too many of us are living lives that fall short of what we truly desire. But as celebrity hypnotist Kimberly Friedmutter explains in this life-changing book, not only is it possible to design the life of your dreams, but the power to do so lies within you, in your subconscious mind.

The subconscious is the root of your true power and desire; it’s your inner eight-year-old, your authentic self. It is the honest compass that will lead you to a life of happiness, so long as you are able to follow its direction. We all have the power to access it—children do so effortlessly—but as we grow up, we’re taught to stop daydreaming and to follow society’s rules, which makes us disconnect from our subconscious, often with tragic results.

In Subconscious Power, Kimberly guides you through six principles that bring your conscious mind in line with your subconscious desires. She shares practical, three-minute exercises that will help you transform your relationships, find true love, lose weight after years of struggling with the scale, overcome addictions, and achieve new career successes and heights. Featuring inspiring success stories and the practical tools you need to make meaningful change, Subconscious Power will empower you to stop being a passive participant in a life you don’t love and to actively choose your life.

What was your age when you wrote your first self-help book, and what thoughts make you write a book?

I was 50 yrs old when I wrote Subconscious Power: Use Your Inner Mind to Create the Life You’ve Always Wanted. I knew what I had discovered about the subconscious needed to be shared simply because utilizing the best part of us, the part of the mind just below the surface, gives us a pathway to an easier, more streamlined life. It truly serves as a brilliant shortcut through the bad times while shining a light on and illuminating the best part of ourselves. Everything you ever wanted from life, yourself and others is accessible through this information.

What’s your new book is about?

It comes down to a very simple point of understanding where your best self is within you. There is so much chatter in the world and so much noise that oftentimes we stray from our own sense of agency and knowing. We are equipped with everything we need to thrive in this lifetime, and at the same time, we hand over our well-being to those who lie outside of our best interests. There is a deep sense of intuition, gut feelings, and clear direction coming from our subconscious if we get quiet and listen. Power whispers, it doesn’t yell because it doesn’t have to. Your sense of self will never steer you wrong, and getting in touch with that part of yourself will liberate you.

How long had it taken to complete your first novel?

It took a few years to write Subconscious Power simply because of condensing the information into the best Six Principles.

What does a typical day of a writer look like, and how do you make it productive?

My typical day is that of a hypnotherapist and writer. I’m fortunate that I love writing, so it’s an adjunct for my private practice as a consultant for high-performing clientele. These days, I spend most hours teleconferencing with clients, writing early in the morning. I’m working on my second book, focusing on fitness, and will be available faster, now that my first book has been so widely received. Subconscious Power made many important lists upon its publication.

Do you practice yoga & meditation to keep your mind, body healthy, and calm?

I practice self-hypnosis. It happens to be very similar to meditation with some subtle differences. Instead of zoning in with meditation, such as focusing on the breath or keeping thoughts at bay, you zone out welcoming thoughts to come and go as they do. More of a feeling of daydreaming, which we do naturally many times during the day, like a natural screensaver mode running in the background. Trance is a very natural, peaceful state of being. I also practice yoga for physical fitness. I love the strength, flexibility, and mental acuity of yoga!

Where do you see yourself in the next ten years?

I would imagine I will have at least five books of information in the self-help market. Self-exploration is gaining relevance and prevalence in the market, and I couldn’t be happier about that. The more we know about our mental state, the better! I love that more people are talking openly about depression, anger, and those darker parts of the psyche because now more people feel like reaching out for help and advice.

Writers and movies that inspire you most?

Michelle Obama recently announced on her podcast that she also had suffered from feelings of depression and malaise. When big forces and influencers in our culture openly and honestly address these issues, we all rise to the occasion. Each of these conversations elevates us to a new level of understanding that in itself provides healing through awareness.

What does success look like to you?

Happiness. Plain and simple. A happy person is a successful person because happiness stems from giving, compassion, alignment, empathy, and love. What more is there?

The writer that inspires you most?

Any comedy writer! I love humor because humor heals! I wrote some monologue jokes for Jay Leno on the Tonight Show, and the power of a laugh is priceless. It’s literally the gift that keeps on giving. You can find humor in the most tragic of circumstances when you allow the human spirit to rise above almost any situation you may face.

What is one habit of yours that makes you more productive as an inspiring entrepreneur?

I’m relentless. I have the charge of a child. I write about keeping yourself tethered to your inner 8-yr old self. From this place of childlike spirit, you can charge ahead with abandon! You need that these days in business. It’s the most honest place you can come from, and people really appreciate the honesty. There’s a blessing that comes with the clarity and transparency we had before we grew into adults with agendas and motives. With the energy of a child, we enjoy the ride more, too.
