There’s no doubt about it, we humans are social creatures, we love being around others, we crave companionship, understanding, support, we have a desire to share with others, be loved, understood, let out steam. We’re generally wired to seek the affection, love, and understanding of others. We’re made for relationships.

Our relationships can have an extremely positive effect on our lives. Think about any successful man or woman you’ve ever met – they will always tell you that they’ve made it to where they were partly because of the support, understanding, and love of their other half. But relationships are not a given success. Relationships are like gentle flowers; they need nourishment, attention, care, understanding. They’re constantly evolving, and with them, our own awareness of what relationships need requires evolution. Seldom has this been truer than in the last few months, when we spent much more time with our partners than we’re normally used to, creating fractions but also some beautiful bonds. So, what is the best way to make sure your relationship is nourished, cared for, and always fresh, blooming, and exciting? To find out, we’ve sat down with relationship expert Steffo Shambo, founder of the Tantric Academy of Sacred Sexuality, for some insight into how we can keep our relationships alive and sparkling, even after many years together.

“The lockdown, and pandemic life in general, have undoubtedly been stressful times for everyone, and it’s no surprise this has had an impact on couples’ relationships. We’ve been spending a lot of time together, most likely inside the home, and in tantric philosophy, not having enough individual separation causes a de-polarization – or flattening of the magnetism of the ‘relationship polarity’ between a couple”, Steffo says.

To his point, it’s interesting to acknowledge the concept of sexual polarity, which is core to consciously making our relationships refreshed and thriving. This sexual polarity is what most people experience when their spouse has been away on a business trip, and when they come back, there are more sparks and excitement for each other. So, to be able to maintain this spark on a daily basis, it’s important to have smaller ‘polarity breaks’ throughout the week as well.

According to Steffo, these can be simple things like sleeping in separate beds a couple of nights per week, having an evening with your guy/girlfriends only, without your partner, or dedicating time to self-care activities, such as working out or going for a massage.

In other words, both partners need to be responsible for their own wellbeing and alone time and make a conscious effort to dedicate time to this. These simple ‘polarity break’ practices will make you feel better about yourself and help you long and yearn for your partner, thus bringing that much-coveted ‘freshness’ into the bedroom and contributing to tour couple’s orgasmic energy
