How Negative Thoughts Make It Harder For You To Achieve Your Goals

Did you know that negative thoughts make it harder for you to achieve your goals? So how do negative thoughts affect your life, and what can you do about it?

In my 30s, I discovered a book called Shortcut Through Therapy by Richard Carlson that taught me happiness is a choice. Every moment of every day, we make a choice to be happy – or not to be happy. 

But why is being happy so important? Because if you want to create anything good in your life – such as a happy marriage, a great career, or an amazing business – you cannot create it from a place of unhappiness and misery. 

As Law Of Attraction teachers, Abraham-Hicks, state, “There is no happy ending to an unhappy journey.” Two unhappy people will inevitably create an unhappy marriage, and any new venture you start from a place of negativity is doomed to struggle or fail. 

Here are some more ways that negative thoughts make your life harder:

1. Making struggle a virtue

Most of us are brought up with the erroneous beliefs that it is virtuous to struggle or suffer, that negativity is normal, that positivity is not real, and that happiness doesn’t last, but according to Abraham-Hicks, this is not true. 

In fact, Pure Positive Energy is our natural state of being, and it’s how we stay connected to Source Energy, our Divine Self. 

Negativity and negative thoughts – or any thought that feels bad – indicates a disconnection from the Divine and makes it harder to create what you want.

2. Like attracts like- The Law of Attraction

As the Law Of Attraction states like attracts like, and thoughts are vibration. So every thought you think sends out a vibration that attracts something on a similar vibration. 

It’s like sending out a radio signal on a specific wavelength that is picked up only by someone tuned into that same wavelength. This means negative thoughts only attract more negativity, negative people, and negative situations into your life. 

So, if you’re wondering why you’re stuck in a mire of depression and misery, it’s because focusing on your negative thoughts is attracting more of the same. And when you’re miserable, it will be much harder for you to create a life you love. 

3. Turning to addictions

So how do you escape this vicious trap of negativity and start thinking positive thoughts? Many people turn to addictions to feel better for a while, but these are just temporary distractions that don’t last, and they end up making you feel worse in the long run. 

How To Overcome Negative Thoughts?

There are better ways to help you move up the Emotional Scale, such as mindfulness meditation or clearing your mind of thoughts. 

This is, by far, one of the healthiest and most reliable ways to feel better, but it takes practice and may not work for everyone. 

1. Practice Law of Attraction

In their book, Ask, And It Is Given, Abraham-Hicks offers no less than 22 Law of Attraction techniques to move you up the Emotional Scale and raise your vibration from Fear and Shame all the way to Love and Peace. 

Many of these techniques are even fun to do, and anyone, at any skill level, can use them to access better-feeling thoughts. 

2. Learn EFT and H’oponopono

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and H’oponopono are two more practices that can help you feel better almost instantly, and you can do them anywhere, anytime. 

The best part about these techniques is that the more you practice them, the better you will get at them and the better you feel.

3. Adopt Empowering Beliefs

Besides these practices, it also helps to adopt empowering beliefs that boost your feelings of self-love and self-esteem and to practice loving yourself and your inner child unconditionally – just as you would love your own child or a pet. 

Most of us have never been taught to love ourselves unconditionally, and women especially are taught that it’s more virtuous to take care of others than of ourselves.

So, this is something we need to consciously overcome, and the techniques above are some of the practices that have helped me achieve unconditional love and happiness in my own life.

Now that you know, there are many techniques that can help you overcome negativity, anxiety. And depression, you no longer have to lose hope or accept a negative frame of mind as inevitable.

Remember You Are Worthy And Deserving Of Joy

Just remember that negativity is not your natural state of being. You are worthy and deserving of joy just the way you are. You came into this world to be a joyful and happy being and to create everything your heart desires. 

Your childhood conditioning and messages from your family and society may have forced you to suppress and disown your own desires over the years, but it’s never too late to reclaim them and be the person you were meant to be. 

You can overcome negativity and unhappiness to reach a state of Pure Positive Energy and attract all the abundance and opportunities you desire. But first, you need to believe that you are worthy of happiness and choose to be happy, no matter what. 

So throw off the chains of your negative thoughts and decide that you are enough, just the way you are. A thought that you think over and over becomes a belief, and when you believe it, you’ll see it, so change your thoughts, and you’ll change your life.
