Earth Day is April 22, 2022, this year and while many of us will be sporting the green triangle, encouraging reducing, reusing, and recycling methods if these methods aren’t practiced every day, it defeats their purpose.

Today, more brands are starting to incorporate better sustainable, environmentally, and eco-friendly practices here are a few to consider:

Sustainable Skincare:

Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Foaming Facial Scrub

Suki Skincare – currently my daily regime (using Renew). I am in love that this is a holistic skincare line that actually addresses skincare problems by balancing & strengthening our skin opposed to slapping a bandaid on it. Suki understands that much of our skincare problems are hormonal which is why they’ve created a line to combat eczema and even during that time of month including menopause. Going into my 40’s I need a skincare line that understands my concerns and is proactive in addressing my skincare needs.

Baesix – FIrst of all, this name is on point .. double meaning; pronounced “basic” (see what they did there) but also bae meaning “before anyone else” aka you, #1 and six actually the number of skincare steps in your regime to achieve clear, healthy radiant skin. I am totally gifting this set to my bestie for her birthday this year as baesix developed their unique formulas from scratch in Korea with a focus on healthy hydration and bioactive nourishment. They use 100% organically certified bamboo in their products. As one of nature’s richest sources of silica; the bamboo extract is known to stimulate the production of collagen, is loaded with antioxidants that combat free radicals, and boasts potent anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial qualities. Lastly, their packaging is either biodegradable or 100% recyclable. Their bottles are made from corn starch and bamboo, their tins are aluminum, their paper is FSC certified, and refills sachets are made from sugarcane!

Sustainable Hair Care:

Plaid Blanket Scarf Winter Fall Scarfs for Women

Jack59 – Not gonna lie, trying a shampoo & conditioner bar was odd after 35+ years of using the liquid form (and running out of the conditioner is just two settings) because my hair is a mix between Diana Ross & Mariah Carey; big, thick, and curly aka its high maintenance. However, after using the bar for several weeks, I’ve noticed a few things:

1. These bars lather up and saturate my strands better than the liquid form, meaning they last longer in the shower (oh yeah, they have really cute containers to protect them between washes)

2. My hair is softer, smoother, and stronger (my curls are so happy) probably because Jack59 products are vegan (leaping bunny certified), sulfate-free, silicone-free, and pH balanced.

Addressing every hair concern you can think of from normal to oily to proceed to high maintenance like mine, Jack59 will not disappoint. This Canadian business has helped prevent over 500K plastic bottles from ending up in our landfills and oceans and is a proud member of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.

Sustainable Home:

Greesum Patio Furniture Set

Celestial Silk Pillowcases – Talk about beauty sleep, with these silk pillows your hair stays tamed and skin uber moisturized. Honestly, I was really skeptical about trying a silk pillowcase but now that I’ve been sleeping on this affordable luxury, I’ll never go back to basic.

Sustainable Travel:

travel pouch

Stojo – I have introduced to Stojo nearly six years ago and still today, I use my trusty collapsible 16oz pink travel cup. It is super sturdy and can pack almost anywhere. They have water bottles, bowls and more that you should consider.

Olika – Ultra Hydrating Hand Sanitizer, which is super easy-to-use refillable pouches, extending the life of your favorite hygiene accessory while helping to eliminate single-use plastic usage. OLIKA’s hand sanis are cruelty-free, vegan, and made with hyaluronic acid, natural aloe, glycerin, clean fragrances and 65% ethyl alcohol, OLIKA’s signature hydrating formula is effective against 99.9% of germs and provides 24 hours of hand hydration. Available in several different scents, my favorite is Pink Grapefruit.

Sustainable Foods:

CLIF BARS -

Frozen Farmer – Talk about nom nom …. The Frozen Farmer takes imperfect and ugly produce from their farm and recreates delicious, creamy, indulgent frobert (their signature sorbet and ice cream) blend & sorbet. My go to dessert is the Strawberry Shortcake Frobert, it even has the graham cracker swirl! Companies like Frozen Farmer are taking everyday steps to reduce our food waste

MingsBings – Vegan, Dairy-free, gluten-free, and plant-based … oh and absolutely delicious. I’ve tried all the flavors and really can not settle for just one. Founded by Award-Winning Chef, Ming Tsai – Mings Bings are prepared with purpose, environmentally friendly insulation, and gives back to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund and Family Research.

Sustainable Sunscreen:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Lotion

Sun Patch – This mess-free and reusable up to 20 times, silicone sunblock patches for under the eye area (and soon nose patches) are the only ones on the market! With four different colors (my favorite is pink) protecting your skin and staying stylish all while being environmentally friendly is achievable with Sun patch!

Remember, Earth Day is really 365 -24 – 7. Now is the time to start carrying reusable metal straws in your day bag, bring your own grocery bags, stop buying napkins & paper towels and switch to washable dishcloths and towels – say no to one-time use of plastics, let’s take care of Mother Earth the way she’s taken care of us.
