“Because a good sunscreen feels light on the skin and protects your skin to a greater extent, sun rays are friendly to the skin if you use the right SPF.”

Sunscreen is a topical product that helps protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. There are two main types of UV rays that can damage the skin: UVA and UVB. Sunscreens are designed to absorb or reflect these rays, preventing them from penetrating the skin.

Why do you need Sunscreen?

Sunscreens are assigned an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) number, indicating their level of protection against UVB rays. Higher SPF values offer greater protection. Hence, it’s vital to choose a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 for adequate protection.

However, sunscreen is just one component of sun protection. It is also advisable to seek shade, wear protective clothing, and use sunglasses to shield your eyes from UV rays. Consistent use of sunscreen not only helps prevent sunburn but also guards against premature aging and reduces the risk of skin cancer.

Benefits of applying Sunscreen

  • Protection against UV Rays – Sunscreen helps protect your skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays from the sun can cause sunburn, premature aging (wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots), and increase the risk of skin cancer.
  • Prevention of Sunburn – Sunburn is a visible sign of skin damage caused by UVB rays. Sunscreen with a sufficient Sun Protection Factor (SPF) helps prevent sunburn by absorbing or reflecting these rays.
  • Prevention of Premature Aging – UVA rays contribute to premature skin aging. Sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection helps shield the skin from UVA rays, minimizing the development of wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots.
  • Reduced Risk of Skin Cancer – Prolonged exposure to UV rays is a major risk factor for developing skin cancer. Regular use of sunscreen, along with other sun protection measures, can significantly reduce this risk.

Application: Apply sunscreen generously to all exposed skin, even on cloudy days. It’s recommended to apply it at least 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours or more frequently if swimming or sweating.
