What Happens To Your Body In Nature

0

Have you ever wondered why you feel so refreshed and clear-minded after spending some time outdoors? Turns out, being immersed in nature can positively affect the human body and mind.

Spending time in nature doesn’t have to mean hour-long hikes or a whole day at the beach; I find that a quick walk in the sunshine during a lunch break will have me feeling more alert and happy for the rest of the day.

The scientific evidence behind this phenomenon proves that people can gain massive mental and physical health benefits from being in the great outdoors. From increasing energy levels to preventing disease, below are three reasons to spend some more time with Mother Nature.

Nature Reduces Stress and Improves Mood

Stress can easily show up in anybody’s life, whether from a heavy workload or simply juggling everyday tasks. When poorly managed, anxiety is unhealthy and can lead to more severe health issues. For me, being boxed up in my house or office all day typically leads to feelings of discomfort and anxiety. One way to relieve this stress is by taking a walk in natural environments, like a park or just around the block.

Personally, I’ve been an avid hiker my whole life. The experience is excellent, and it is an excuse to get outside and clear my head to feel more grounded and at peace. Being under the sun can turn my mood around in a matter of minutes. Hiking is a way that I can get in exercise for my body and my mind at the same time. Even if it’s just a quick 2-3 mile hike, getting it done feels like a huge accomplishment.

If that’s not enough to convince you to get outside, here’s something crazy. Recently, healthcare professionals performed an extensive study showing that 90 minutes of outdoor activity can reduce brain activity linked to mental illness. The research also suggests that time spent in natural environments can lower the risk of depression.

Nature Increases Energy Levels

Feeling sluggish is a normal part of most people’s days, so don’t underestimate the power of being outdoors to help combat this. Numerous studies have proven that exposure to nature is directly linked to increased energy and an elevated sense of well-being.

The very presence of nature helps me ward off feelings of mental and physical exhaustion during an extra-sluggish day. I find that my head feels lighter, and my body feels more energized when I prioritize time outdoors. Neglecting to go outside throughout the day often leads to mental and physical fatigue.

Escaping into nature for extended periods can significantly boost focus, creativity, and cognitive function. Another reason to step outside is to get Vitamin D. While Vitamin D supplements exist, the best way to get this crucial nutrient is straight from the sun. Our skin produces Vitamin D when exposed to sunlight, and it plays a significant role in boosting our energy levels.

Nature Increases Creativity Levels

A constant flow of emails, messages, and general notifications can end up having a burdensome impact on our brains. Small, technological demands distract and cognitively wear us out, making inventing new ideas a more difficult task.

When I spend time basking in the outside air, I often experience a natural shift in how I view the world around me. This is mainly because being in nature helps in finding inspiration and unlocking new levels of creativity. Additionally, the outdoors tends to shift my mindset from “I’m running out of time” to “I have an abundance of time.”

Many people face harsh deadlines in their careers, which can directly correlate to experiencing a creative block. The good news is that quality time in nature can help you jump over “writer’s block.” Heck, even before writing this article, I stepped outside to get the creative juices flowing.

Many studies have shown that nature can improve your memory, as well. When it comes to memorization for tests or taking better notes, spending time outdoors could be the key. If you’re anything like me, keeping my memory sharp is an increasingly difficult challenge!

In Conclusion: Take a Hike!

Today’s world is primarily fueled by technology, so the urge to get back into nature is stronger than ever. To fully reap the benefits that Mother Nature has to offer, it’s essential to take a break and recharge outside often.

Aside from the refreshing sense of outside air, the great outdoors can increase satisfaction with life, happiness, and mindfulness while lowering anxiety and depression. Find time every day to take advantage of these benefits.

The pressure and stress of day-to-day life can quickly build up and weigh heavy on our hearts and minds. Many factors play into this, like work, relationships, or technology. Still, the good news is that nature is a free resource, and we can access it and its benefits by merely stepping outside.

Why Imagination and Creativity are Vital for Female Entrepreneurs and How They Can Build It

Imagination and creative thinking are critical for entrepreneurs because they lead to innovation.

  • Creativity and innovation are similar but not the same.
  • Creativity is being able to see brand new ideas or the connection between two unrelated things. Whereas innovation is about taking those ideas and turning them into new products or processes.
  • Creativity involves flexing your imagination, and innovation has to do with execution.

It’s okay if you don’t feel that you are overly creative; you just need to practice. Getting more creative is like any other form of exercise- you’ve got to work on beefing up those imagination muscles to get stronger. The more you focus on it, the more creative you’ll become.

Also, creativity and pushing one’s imagination are vital for female entrepreneurs because they are the main movers and shakers at their startups.

How to Foster It?

So, what should you do? There are some best practices for becoming more creative and growing your imagination. Why not try to take a new way to work or to the grocery store? Find a silly idea and figure out if there is anything good about it. Take one of your daily tasks and uncover a novel way to complete it. Putting a fresh spin on your everyday routine stimulates your imagination and your creativity.

Hit Pause Every Now and Again

When you’re working on your business or starting something new, giving yourself a quick break or getting some fresh air will provide you with an inspirational lift. Those few minutes off-task reset your brain. You should also set aside some time every day for creative activities that let your imagination run wild- you can paint, sculpt, write, play the piano, or whatever you want- it will spark the innovative part of your mind and your ingenuity. Even daydreaming is useful in this regard. Try to keep bringing in new knowledge through classes, webinars, and more. When you learn, you grow, and your vision and imagination expand.

Emphasize Self-Care

Be sure to take care of yourself too- eat healthily, get enough sleep, and drink plenty of water. It will allow you to have more energy and help your brain perform better. Don’t forget to take breaks too and give yourself plenty of downtimes.

Write More

Another great habit is to write whenever you can- be it an article, some light journaling, or something for fun. Writing stimulates your inventive juices and helps you explore ideas more deeply. Challenge yourself by writing something that is outside of your expertise- you’ll learn and grow in the process.

Mix It Up

It never hurts to get a change in scenery, so mix up your everyday atmosphere, too. When you are somewhere new, you move out of your comfort zone. If you work in a home office, try to go to a café or outdoor spot every now and again- laptop in tow. You can also turn on some music, write out your ideas with a pen and paper, or use your hands to disrupt your logical thinking.

Endeavor to make whatever you are doing a game to keep it fresh and fun, stimulating your imagination in the process.

Why not dedicate a special space in your home for ingenuity and letting your ideas flow- maybe an entire room or just a spot in the corner? Be sure that no matter what, you give yourself some time for a release- to kayak, take a walk or read. Even moving to a new spot in the room can help change things up. Let your mind wander and see where it takes you.

Put in the Time

Dedicate some time every day for brainstorming- you have to keep pushing your startup forward in terms of innovation and customer service. Make it a part of your culture and reward brainstorming and creativity when you see them. Thinking outside of the box will take both you and your startup to the next level, and you set the example at the helm of your business.

Stay Positive and Play

It’s also critical that you learn to look at the bright side of things as that will help you stay inspired. If you feel yourself getting down, do whatever you can to give yourself a mood boost. Work on some creative thinking exercises like completing pictures, puzzles, and coming up with new words and phrases. Coupled with your brainstorming activities, these best practices will push the needle. You should ensure that you are incorporating at least half an hour of creative thinking into your day as well. Draw, doodle, and do what you can to become a more successful and disruptive fempreneur.

Make It Happen

As a female founder, it’s important to do all you can to boost your imagination and innovation as you need to keep disrupting and working to entice customers, compete with competitors and show up as the best version of yourself! So, go out there and build your creative skills and watch your business flourish.

Best? Worst? Which Zodiac Sign Makes the Best Relationships

0

Zodiac Signs That Are Best at Relationships

Libra

Libra is one of the two signs that is ruled by Venus, so this fact alone makes them very appealing to all of the other signs in the Zodiac – Libras are simply built for relationships. Venus energy speaks to love, money, and relating, and Libras are well-versed in all of these areas. They are charming, well-dressed, eloquent, social, and more than happy to go the extra mile for someone they care about. Libra also rules the Seventh House of Partnership, which is the most important house to look at when romantic commitment is the goal. Libras will not shy away from commitment, and while they can handle casual relationships, they will only stick around long term for people they see themselves going the distance with. Whether it’s work, friendship, or romance, having a Libra by your side is a serious asset.

Taurus

Taurus is the other Venus-ruled sign, so they are sure to catch your eye, and they make very solid relationship partners. This sign is the most sensual sign of all. Like their Libra counterparts, they have a keen aesthetic sense; but they tend to have a much more earthy vibe. Taurus isn’t flashy or cerebral like Libra. They are beautiful in a “girl-” or “guy-next-door” kind of way. They have sweet smiles, and they possess a quiet determination that is unmatched by any other sign in the Zodiac. Taurus is very romantic. They are also steadfast, resourceful, and not afraid to work hard in a committed relationship. Their energy is very genuine – what you see is what you get with this sign. And what you get is a loyal partner who will always be there when you need them.

Zodiac signs that are worst at relationships:

Aquarius

Aquarius is a very social air sign that is absolutely fixated on personal freedom, so they aren’t easy to pin down. Once committed, they have no trouble staying there; the problem is catching their attention in the first place. Ruled by Uranus, they tend to be very erratic and difficult to understand. They are also cold and distant, rarely showing emotion. Aquarians are often perceived as flaky – they kind of belong to everyone and don’t like to be tied down at all. So even if they are on the market romantically, they will be thinking ahead to what an actual commitment will look like, and they won’t necessarily like what they see. They are social, intelligent, and super friendly, but they get bored quickly. If you can’t hold their attention, they are the most likely sign in the Zodiac to disappear without a trace.

Sagittarius

Very similar to Aquarius, Sagittarians can’t sit still, and also don’t like to be limited. Aquarians will settle down if they find the right partner, but Sagittarius lives in a constant state of FOMO, so commitment isn’t a strong suit with this sign. They tend to have a very eccentric way of dressing themselves, and you will either love it or hate it. It doesn’t matter to them; they really don’t care what you think. This sign is also known for being optimistic, but very blunt, so even if you get past the way they dress, there is sure to be something in their demeanor that offends you eventually. Sagittarian curiosity is legendary, and while this quality is useful in many areas of life, romantic relationships aren’t one of them. Sagittarians are notorious flirts, and the worst ones are serial cheaters and narcissists.

Two good Zodiac pairs:

What Each Zodiac Sign Loves About Relationships

Gemini & Leo

I see a lot of Gemini/Leo pairings, both in love and friendship. Gemini is the sign of mutable air, and Leo is fixed fire. Air and fire mix very well, and the versatility of the Gemini is a great asset to Leo’s stable and sometimes stubborn personality. Air signs like Gemini are not known for being very emotional, but fire signs like Leo are always warm and passionate. So there is a synergy here that works well and brings a nice balance to their combined energy. Gemini is a fun and flirty sign, and Leo is all about romance and playfulness. These two make a great team. They will run in a large circle of friends and acquaintances, and they’ll never get bored with each other. It is one of the most dynamic combinations in all of the Zodiac.

Scorpio & Pisces

This couple is the stuff that astrology legends are made of – the pirate and the mermaid! I see this pairing quite often when I read charts for couples. Both Scorpio and Pisces are water signs, so they have a lot in common. They are emotionally in-tune, intuitive, and have a sixth sense for each others’ needs. Scorpio is very protective of its feelings, while Pisces tends to let it all hang out. Together, this couple does a good job of creating emotional balance. Scorpio provides Pisces a stable and consistent place to deposit the constant river of emotion that runs through the sign, and Pisces reminds Scorpio to go with the flow every once in a while.

Two bad Zodiac pairs:

What Each Zodiac Sign Loves About Relationships

Aries & Libra

Opposites always attract in astrology, even when they shouldn’t, which is why Aries and Libra top this list. Aries is the sign of “self,” while Libra is the sign of “other,” so these two have the potential to teach each other a lot about the art of balance. The problem is that they almost never do. Aries can be self-centered, while Libra takes it to the other extreme and never puts itself first. Blending these two energies usually results in a situation where Libra constantly feels put out. At first, Libra won’t mind this because the energy is meant to focus on partnership; but over time, Aries won’t be able to meet Libra’s needs, and Libra won’t ask for anything. These are both cardinal signs, which make them leadership-oriented, but their communication styles are highly incompatible. Aries is aggressive and explosive, while Libra is conflict-averse and passive-aggressive. The result is a relationship with a lot of hurt feelings and unmet expectations.

Virgo & Sagittarius

I can’t really think of a worse combination than this! Sagittarius is a very happy-go-lucky sign that really likes to go with the flow and is always looking for the next good time. Virgo is a service-oriented sign who strives for perfection and rarely lets her hair down. While these two have a lot to offer each other in theory, in practice, they just don’t work well together. There is a lot of tension in this pairing because the goals of the underlying sign are completely different. Virgo is content to stay local and live a practical existence, but Sagittarius wants to roam and is not at all concerned with keeping a schedule. These two signs will drive each other absolutely nuts.

Why You Should Workout with Your Partner

Most people work out because it is fun, boosts metabolism, and strengthens muscles. After working a full workday, handling adult-related responsibilities, and managing your children, working out often understandably falls on the bottom of the to-do list.

However, just like almost everything else in the world, there are ways to make dreary, tiring activities excited. For example, workouts can be fun if you do it with your significant other. Working out together can be an intimate bonding experience for romantic partners.

Aside from making workouts fun by planning intimate sweat sessions, the result of those sessions could lead to diminished costs for the family’s financial responsibilities, like life insurance. Life insurance based on APS underwriting requires an attending physician to notate the standing of your health. Hence, insurance companies can determine the level of risk you are at.

If you’re regularly participating in intimate workout sessions with your partner, you could ensure that you are healthy enough to be considered a low-risk level for insurance. This directly equates to receiving lower rates on your life insurance policy.

Grow Closer by Working Out Together

It is no secret that some couples struggle to remain happy in a relationship after many years of being together. Once couples get to that point, they often start searching for tips to make the relationship healthy again, but they do not realize that something as simple as exercising together can bring joy back into their relationship.

A study noted in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology explains how the couples who partook in exciting physical activities experienced more feelings of satisfaction and contentment. Some couples even expressed feeling more in love with their partner after exciting workouts.

Despite physical activity being challenging (and sometimes painful), the psychological arousal that can come later makes this experience worthwhile. Exercising can make a person feel vulnerable because it exposes your weaknesses, which can be a great bonding tool for couples.

Having your partner support and interact with you during moments of vulnerability without judgment positively alters the mental and emotional state you have towards your partner.

Intimate Workouts Create Dedicated Accountability Partners

There have been plenty of times when I reached out to a friend, asking if she would like to work out with me for accountability, and each time the dedication to the end goal fades away. Though your friends love you, your partner is more invested in your life than anyone else.

Your health directly affects them in a variety of ways. If you’re healthy, both life and health insurance rates are typically cheaper. You will also be able to participate in living longer if you’re healthy because you won’t be worried about different diseases such as diabetes or heart disease. If anything, your partner would be the best accountability partner.

As a bonus, you two are not only just accountable for one another’s health journey, but you also learn to work as a team.

Those who have been in a long-term relationship know how crucial it is to work fluidly with your partner to keep your household in line. Physical exercise requires concentration and accuracy to avoid injury. Working on being detailed with movement as a pair can directly benefit how you two work together on problems outside of the sweat session.

Workouts Can Rekindle Intimacy in Your Relationship

Just as happiness can dwindle in a relationship, the level of intimacy can, too. In some cases, intimacy may never have been present because the couple let insecurity kill the relationship’s intimacy early on. However, moving in a synchronous flow with your partner could help you feel more emotionally attuned with one another.

Examples of this type of movement would be supporting one another as your lift weights, tossing a medicine ball to and from one another, or swinging those massive ropes in unison.

When you are working in unison while exercising, you are actively working towards a common goal. Working towards and achieving a goal together improves intimacy because accomplishing something together helps to bond you together.

Through the physical challenges associated with completing a workout and the moments of weaknesses, you both pushed through for the sake of achieving a common goal. On a mental and emotional level, you are probably left feeling appreciative of your partner for going on this fitness journey with you.

You Spend More Time Together When Working Out

My partner works at night, and I work during the day. We sometimes have a few hours after he wakes up and after I get off of work before he has to get his day started, so we do not get to spend much time together.

The lack of quality time in a relationship is common among working adults, but planning quality time is one of the secrets to maintaining love and work-life balance. Your intimate exercise sessions can serve as quality time, and you are basically killing two birds with one stone.

You are spending time together and working towards physical health at the same time.

Exercise Serves as an Alternative to Venting to Your Partner

How many times have you found yourself going into an extensive rant about how frustrating your day was? Life can grow extremely hectic, and leaning on your partner during those times is easy and comforting.

In replacement for venting sessions, your workout sessions can be used to blow out the steam.

Instead of verbally communicating your frustrations, express them through the energy you exert during your workout. This will help you to burn more calories, work harder with your partner, and helps to decompress from a rough day. And if things become too aggressive, your partner is there to calm you back down.

Life in the Bedroom Gets Better

After you increase intimacy in your relationship through workout sessions with your partner, your sex life will ideally be better. Because of your sweat sessions, you would naturally have become physically fit. When you are in good shape, your body can withstand more rigorous movement (like bedroom activities) for a longer, extended amount of time.

Additionally, you will grow a better understanding of your partner’s body and weaknesses throughout the workouts. So during intercourse, you will be able to supplement movements and positions to support your partner.

Since this is a physical activity, the bond and efficient teamwork you two built during workouts will translate to the bedroom. Therefore the workouts will result in making physical intimacy a fun, synchronous, and supportive experience.

Keto Diet? Everything You Need to Know

Keto diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet. You simply cut down your carbohydrate intake and replace it with fat. This carb reduction puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis

. When this happens, your body becomes like a furnace, and it becomes efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain.

Ketogenic diets can help with blood sugar and insulin levels. This, along with the increased ketones, has numerous health benefits.

With that being said, there are different type of ketogenic diet; I am going to mention some of them below:

  1. STANDARD KETO DIET: This is a very low-carb, moderate-protein, and high-fat diet. The macros ratio in this diet is typically 75% fat, 20% protein, and only 5% carbs.
  2. CYCLICAL KETO DIET: This diet involves carb cycling, where there are periods of higher-carb refeeds, such as 5 keto days followed by 2 high-carb days.
  3. KETO DIET: In this style of the keto diet, you include carbs around workouts; it could be pre/post-workout.
  4. HIGH PROTEIN KETO DIET: It is very similar to a standard keto diet, but it has more protein intake. The ratio is often 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs.

What to eat on a keto diet?

Now the question is WHAT TO EAT ON A KETO DIET? In order to reach ketosis, you need to avoid eating too many carbs. On a standard ketogenic diet, you’ll most likely need to keep your carb intake under 50 grams, ideally below 20 grams. The fewer the carbs you consume, the more effective your diet will be in reaching ketosis, losing weight, or improving type 2 diabetes.

Some of the foods that you can consume on a standard keto diet are as follows:

  1. Natural fats (Olive oil, butter, etc.)
  2. Meat
  3. Eggs
  4. Fish and seafood
  5. A vegetable that grows above the ground.

Let’s discuss the foods that you need to avoid on a keto diet. Foods containing a lot of carbs that includes both the sugary and the starchy kind.

Some of the food items that you need to avoid during the ketogenic diet are as follows:

  1. Bread
  2. Rice
  3. Pasta
  4. Potatoes
  5. Sugary beverages (Coke, etc.)

Now that we have looked into what we can eat let’s dive into what we can drink whilst being on a keto diet. Water is the perfect drink; you can consume coffee or tea too. It will be ideal if you use very low to no sweeteners, especially sugar. A splash of milk or cream in your coffee or tea is fine, but one needs to be aware that carbs can add up if you drink more than a cup in a day (and definitely avoid cafe lattes).

As explained earlier, the ketogenic diet has numerous health benefits; the keto diet may help some people with type 2 diabetes because it allows the body to maintain glucose levels at a low but healthy level. However, it is not recommended for everybody as every individual’s body reacts differently to such a diet. The diet does come with risks.

The effects of Keto on blood glucose?

People with type 2 diabetes can lower their blood sugar levels with the help of a ketogenic diet.

In fact, one study shows that people with type 2 diabetes lost weight, needed less medication, and lowered their A1c (Blood test for type 2 diabetes) when they followed the keto diet for a year.

Can keto reverse type-2 diabetes?

To be completely honest, a complete reversal of Type 2 diabetes would be difficult, if not impossible. But keto diet can get you closer to this goal.

According to Dr. Sarah Hallberg, an advocate of diabetes reversal with dietary intervention, low-carb diets are the only ones that can possibly reverse this disease.

What are the potential dangers of the keto diet?

Changing the primary energy source to fat causes an increase in ketones in the blood. This “dietary ketosis” is different from ketoacidosis, which is an extremely dangerous condition.

When you have too many ketones, you may be at risk of developing diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Although rare, DKA is possible in type 2 diabetes if ketones are too high. Being ill while on a low-carb diet may also increase your risk for DKA.

A ketogenic diet is an interesting alternative to treat certain conditions; it may also accelerate weight loss. The problem with the keto diet is that it is hard to follow; it can be heavy on red meat and other fatty foods. Basically, it is not a one size fit all strategy; you need to consult the right medical professionals before you jump on to a keto diet or any other diet that gives quick results. Do your research and see what suits you, and most importantly, ask yourself if you can consistently do it for a longer period of time.

The Positive Effects Of Nature On Your Well-Being

0

Aside from the normal hustle and bustle of everyday life and the endless list of responsibilities that consume most of our day, many of us have been faced with heightened stress and anxiety every year.

Let’s be real; we have A LOT going on.

Unmanaged stress can trigger mood episodes, cause physical ailments, and have a negative impact on several aspects of your life. Now more than ever, it is important for you to make self-care a priority that stays high on your to-do list. One simple solution that can help reduce your stress and balance your mood is nature.

How Does It Work?

When people are under high levels of stress, the prefrontal cortex malfunctions; this is the part of the brain that controls our emotional responses to stress. When it is impaired, it can cause a continuous loop of negative thoughts, making you feel like you’re trapped in that emotional state. Nature’s calming sounds and visual aspects have a soothing effect on both the mind and body.

Whether it’s the mountain views, a beautiful hike, walking your dog, or visiting a nearby beach, getting out into nature can do more for you than you may think. Countless studies have proven that nature has many therapeutic benefits.

Nature has a way of bringing you into the present moment and allows you to take a break from stressful thoughts of the past and future. It can help align the mind, body, and spirit. Becoming more aware of the nuances of nature sounds such as the wind rustling through the leaves of trees, crickets chirping in the distance, or the running water of a nearby creek can improve your overall sense of well-being. If you’re lucky enough to be close to any body of water, simply being near it can make you feel a sense of calm and elevate your mood.

How Much Nature Do I Need?

Research shows that being in nature for as little as 20-minutes can reduce feelings of anger, fear, and stress. It can also increase the development of more pleasant feelings that improve your overall mood and make you feel more energized.

Try spending 30-minutes barefoot on the grass, sand, or dirt. Scientists have found that there is a source of free electrons conducted by the Earth that can neutralize the free radicals in your body, leaving you feeling more balanced and grounded.

Can Nature Do More Than Relieve Stress?

Ecotherapy is a type of formal treatment that involves doing activities outside in nature and has shown to help symptoms of mild to moderate depression. Due to its natural therapeutic benefits, Ecotherapy has also helped improve other mental health problems such as anxiety, OCD, and bipolar disorder.

Many clinicians believe that spending too much time indoors can lead to feelings of isolation and boredom, which can trigger a depression relapse for those who are more susceptible. Outdoor activities promote personal growth, establish a deeper connection to the world around us, and foster a greater sense of self-awareness.

What If I Can’t Get Outside?

Simply visualizing scenes of nature can bring a sense of calm and quiet. Nature therapy researchers conducted a study on patients recovering from heart surgeries, which were stuck in hospital beds for long periods of time. The patients who were shown images of nature were said to need less pain medication and reported lower levels of anxiety than patients who were not shown these images.

Can Nature Help Physical Ailments?

Exposure to nature can not only help you feel better emotionally; it contributes to your physical well-being. Spending time outside has shown to reduce blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of the stress hormone cortisol. It even supports a better night’s sleep.

A recent study that was conducted involved taking groups of people into the forest and measuring certain biomarkers. This allowed them to collect data that demonstrates how natural environments have a therapeutic effect on our immune system, respiratory system, and cardiovascular system. It also offers opportunities for natural physical activity, which has several physical and emotional benefits of its own.

There is undeniable tranquility about nature that naturally encourages relaxation. Every time you are in nature, you benefit, and regularly spending time outside profoundly impacts your physical, mental, emotional, and psychological health. Whether you live around natural surroundings, visit local parks, or head out into your own backyard, every connection with nature makes a positive difference.

The Ultimate Home Maintenance Checklist for Every Season

Owning a house is much more than just sitting back after a hard day of work and having a cold beer or hot coffee in front of your fireplace.

While this is the main idea of enjoying yourself in your own home-sweet-home, to keep being able to do this, you will have to ensure all the systems within the house are running as smoothly as a greased lightning.

It doesn’t make much sense trying to relax in your armchair after a hard day of work if your roof leaks every time it starts raining or if a Biblical number of blood-thirsty mosquitos can enter your living room willy-nilly because you forgot to set up the insect net on your door earlier that year.

Improper maintenance or lack of any maintenance in your home can throw one hell of a spanner in the works of how well your place of residence runs, so to prevent mishaps and malfunctions down the road, you’d better concoct a checklist of chores and maintenance-related tasks that you need to complete all year round.

In this article, we’re going to help you out with this delicate task by providing some of the most common maintenance points you need to keep in check all year round to make your house run like clockwork.

Spring

  • Roof Inspection – While spring is one of the safest seasons when it comes to having to worry about precipitation or snowfall, this also means that whatever fixes and changes to your roof, you need to pull off – you’ll need to do during this fair-weathered season.
  • Also, if you’re planning on pulling off any major roof changes or fitting new roofing such as high-quality slate roofing, asphalt shingles, or something else from scratch, the time to do it would be during the warm spring months.
  • Check the State of the Paint – of the exterior walls because even the most high-quality paint tends to get compromised after a while under the influence of tough weather. If you need to repaint something, spring would be the friendliest season for chunkier around-the-house projects.

Summer

  • Check for Termites and other Vermin – and find their lairs before their troops find you. If left unchecked, termites, fire ants, and other similar insects can spread their territory fairly quickly and so create an even bigger problem for you down the road.
  • Inspect Your Basement for Moisture – During the cold and wet seasons of autumn and winter, quite a lot of moisture and moisture-related issues (most notably mold) can affect your basement. Once the spring comes, it’s time you check what’s going on down there and if the preventive measures you set up last year held out against the tough weather of the previous two seasons.

Autumn

  • Get a Good Look at Your Chimneys – With winter just around the corner, you’ll want to prepare for the incoming cold weather as well as possible. If you’re using a wood stove or any sort of heating system that requires a chimney, what you will need to do is check if the chimney is clogged and clear out any soot and potential animals that may have inhabited it in the meantime.
  • Furnace Checkup – would be another example of something that you have to check in the autumn, so you don’t have to worry about it later on during the winter. A well-functioning furnace means you won’t have to worry about not being able to prepare a hot meal while it’s freezing hot outside.

Winter

  • Change the Direction of the Ceiling Fans – This simple procedure often flies over many people’s heads who don’t know physics that well, but simply changing the direction in which the ceiling fan rotates will make it thrust down either cold or hot air. So, you can flip the direction of it when the winter comes for some additional heating in your rooms.
  • Check the Plumbing Systems – in your bathroom, kitchen, and any place where there are pipes with water in them. If the winter is particularly cold, you may even need to insulate some of the pipes to prevent leaks or to burst.

All in all, as long as you take good care of your house systems little by little all year round, you will not only make your house a comfortable place to be in but also you can prevent having to dish out an arm and a leg on expensive repairs in case something goes wrong.

4 Elements of Self-Compassion

0

Having compassion for others can be easy. It is much more simple to focus on others and overlook their faults, flaws, and any limits to their abilities.

On the other hand, showing elements of self-compassion can be incredibly difficult and something we all need to work on.

This article will cover four necessary self-compassion elements so you can start cutting yourself some slack without cutting out your drive, passion, and zest for life!

1. Take the time to prepare

This might sound like the oldest trick in the book, but preparing ourselves for things is an absolutely essential element of self-compassion.

Whether you’re a parent, single person, couple, or retired (or anywhere in between), being prepared for the coming day or big event in your life is a must for keeping the stress levels down.

This is doubly important if this event impacts others around you.

Prevent the extra stress of being unprepared from ruining your day by getting organized (even just mentally) a little earlier! If you can think through something beforehand, chances are when you get to that moment when you really need to be mentally present; you can be.

You won’t need to put too much thought into what you need to do, because you’ve already done it!

2. Take regular time for self-care

Self-care is definitely a trending concept now, and there is a very good reason.

Many people neglect self-care on a consistent basis.

This leads to stress, burnout, and often other connected issues-not to mention the relationship issues that can arise from never spending time together if that’s also an issue!

You can find any number of self-care ideas on Pinterest and all over the internet, but. Basically, the activity (or relaxation) you choose to use as self-care needs to cover these:

  • It needs to refresh your SOUL-you come back feeling like you have taken a big, mental, or emotional breath of fresh air.
  • It needs to help you recharge-after you have implemented this for a while, you should feel energized or at least ready to get re-energized afterward or the next day; and
  • It needs to be something you can access regularly. Once-a-year cruises are NOT consistent self-care.

3. Allowing time to process

This element of self-compassion is all about giving yourself permission to process.

If you have had a breakup, big change, or another big event in your life, processing this is extremely important. You will need to let yourself move through those emotions and NOT get annoyed at yourself for even having a few down days.

Allowing these emotions to move through you and being present with them means seeing them for what they are: emotions. They do not define you unless you let them. Sit back and feel the feelings so you can let them go.

However, you don’t need processing for just the big things in life.

That small comment from another parent about your child, that comment from someone at work, the silly look someone gave you, the way you dealt with your partner that day… these all need processing too.

We’ve all woken up at some time early in the morning and thought about some of these little things, but they need to be processed too, or we wouldn’t be waking up!

Allow time and KNOW that it’s OK.

4. Allow yourself to make mistakes

This is close to my heart because I work with kids, and parents allowing ourselves to make mistakes is extremely important.

Do we want to go out and make mistakes without caring? No!

But learning that mistakes are part of life, part of growth, is essential to building our resilience. This means that we learn to ‘bounce back’ in adversity and learn that in order to succeed, we need to keep trying when we fail!

So while we teach this to our kids and talk about it-how do you go with this yourself?

Do you actually allow yourself to make mistakes without beating yourself up unnecessarily?

Because that is the thing about self-compassion-its about the mental attitude you have towards yourself, more than anything else.

So next time you make a mistake, feel like you stuffed up, feel like you just embarrassed yourself?

Don’t go over it, and over it, and over it in your head.

Cut yourself some mental slack, try to shrug it off (after you have processed, of course), and don’t hit that mental ‘song repeat’ anymore!

We all need to take time to think about which elements of self-compassion we can work on because no one is really ‘there’ at the pinnacle of perfection in this area.

We all need a refresher course now and then.

Let’s be more aware and give ourselves that beautiful, life-giving gift of self-compassion and self-love.

You deserve it.

You should never overlook the importance of planning. It will allow you to calculate the costs of starting your business, but it will also help you manage your finances. Writing a business plan for the first time is not easy, but it’s crucial for your success. If you don’t know where to begin, think about your ambitions, and where you want to be in five years. Always think long term and develop various strategies that will support different outcomes. What do you need to do if you want to grow your startup? It’s vital to start with the plan. You can always change it once you notice any irregularities.

3. Find the right marketing strategy

There are various marketing strategies that you can apply if you want to grow your business. However, it’s vital to combine traditional and digital marketing if you want to sell your products to your target audience. Hire a manager and form a small team that will help you create engaging content for your social media account and try to engage with your shoppers as much as possible. You can’t be a successful leader if you’re always under stress. Establish a balance between work and private life, and you will feel ready to face new challenges. Sleep at least eight hours a day and exercise often. It improves your critical thinking skills, but it also encourages you to consider creative ideas.

Conclusion

You won’t be able to reach your goals overnight, but you can work hard every day, and eventually you will make a lot of progress. Invest in your employees and find a marketing strategy that works the best for you. Be patient, and your hard work will pay off.

The Importance of Truly Embracing Self-Compassion With Kindness

0

Self-compassion is integral to a good self-care routine. Many people are aware of the importance of showing compassion to others; however, it is often overlooked when it comes to the self.

Elements of compassion include forgiveness, kindness, understanding, and mindfulness.

Self-compassion involves understanding that you are just a human and make mistakes; it means forgiving yourself when you missed a deadline or goal. Compassion encompasses kindness of all sorts and, at its core, is love. Understanding your boundaries and limits is also demonstrating compassion, as it shows self-respect.

Socrates’ famous quote ‘to know thyself is wisdom‘ encompasses the virtue of understanding that is a cornerstone of compassion. Realizing that you are a human and make mistakes is only the first stepping stone to true self-understanding. Knowing yourself includes knowing your likes, dislikes, and outlook on the world. Being mindful of your thoughts and feelings can help to arrive at true understanding.

Being Mindful

Mindfulness is an important part of compassion because it allows the current situation to be observed without judgement. Identifying and categorizing what is happening is not conducive to compassionate understanding because it removes you from the experience at hand. A large part of showing compassion involves acknowledging pain or negativity and then dealing with it in a kind way. Isolating the experience of trying to define it inhibits emotional engagement, which is an important component of kindness and love.

Developing a habit of showing compassion to yourself can help you cope with issues in a more balanced way and likely spread to others. The way you treat yourself both reflects and creates your self-image, which in turn has an impact on your behavior towards others. There are several ways to begin actively practicing compassion, and acceptance is an underlying theme among them.

Getting Started

There are generally thought to be three steps to cultivating self-compassion. Each of which can be tailored to fit seamlessly into your schedule.

The first principle of compassion is kindnessThis kindness is not just about doing good deeds or giving compliments; rather, it is a deep and unconditional resolve to be considerate and avoid passing judgement. While it might seem effortless to apply this to a friend who is going through a rough time, applying this level of kindness to yourself is often easier said than done. Kindness is fundamental to being compassionate, and thinking about the impact that your thoughts and words have on your emotional state is a good way to start applying this step to your daily life.

The second step that can help build self-compassion involves decreasing feelings of isolation. Realizing that you are a human being, just like everyone else, can be both discouraging and comforting. We all make mistakes, and you are no exception. Next time you notice yourself judging something you did or did not do, remember that it was a mistake, and everyone makes them. You did the best that you could given the situation, and that is enough. Isolating yourself from humanity’s follies only serves to make the situation worse and is not a demonstration of compassion.

The final practical step to cultivating self-compassion involves forgiveness. This step specifically asks you to suspend all judgement and simply observe what is happening at the moment. Judging yourself doesn’t take into account the value of the experience or what you learned from it. Either, it prevents you from accepting that what happened is in the past, not the present or future.

Acceptance of the emotions you feel and embracing them as a part of your experience allows you to forgive yourself for any mistakes and move on.

The Value Of Compassion

Compassion has a way of dissembling emotional obstacles and limitations you may have, assisting you in creating a life of joy and peace.

Being aware of your emotions and the impact that your thoughts and words have on others as well as yourself can open up a world of opportunity, as limitations are often beliefs that you have about yourself. Letting go of the past and forgiving yourself for previous actions demonstrate that you are living in the present and are no longer the person that you used to be.

Living compassionately with yourself can teach you valuable lessons about how to interact with the world in a kind, loving, and gentle way. Applying compassion to conflicts or fights can be a great way to diffuse tense situations as well as provide emotional support to everyone involved.

Living your life mindfully and showing kindness to all you encounter, including yourself, is a powerful way to spread love and build a more welcoming world.
