Have you noticed how some people have beautiful glowing skin and always look rested? It’s because they respect their beauty sleep and take care of their skin. Even though genetics plays a big role in the way your skin looks, your lifestyle can certainly affect your beauty! What are you doing wrong?

We usually don’t pay too much attention to little things in our environment. However, they can cost us our beautiful skin! Even though we can’t really affect everything that surrounds us, we can adapt our lifestyle and start living healthier. But firstly, you need to find out what mistakes you have to avoid to prevent your skin from getting ruined!

1. Low-quality, cheap sheets

We can agree that expensive sheets aren’t always high-quality. Similarly, cheap sheets aren’t always going to ruin your skin! However, buying more quality sheets usually comes with a price. In today’s world, not many people have plenty of money to waste on fancy expensive sheets. However, that can save your skin!

Instead of wasting your money on instant pleasures, try to save up for better-quality sheets. Not only will you improve your beauty sleep, but also your skin is going to clear up. As cheap sheets are often made out of synthetic materials, your skin sweats during the night causing breakouts. To prevent that, use 100% cotton sheets or silk sheets.

2. Dirty or unwashed sheets

Your problem with bedding doesn’t end with quality. Even though you’ll sleep better in higher quality sheets, you need to wash them often as well! This is common sense; however, many people forget to wash their sheets frequently. But how can dirty sheets affect your skin?

During the night we sweat, drool shed. On top of that, daily dust piles up on our beds. If we don’t wash our sheets and pillowcases frequently, dirt can get into our pores, causing our skin to break out! Changing your bedding once a week is recommended. However, if you have sensitive or oily skin, consider changing your pillowcase every three to five days to prevent skin problems caused by sheets.

3. Snacking in bed

Is there anything better than watching a film before bed and eating your favourite snacks? Even though this seems like a perfect evening at home, it can severely affect your skin! How can something as simple as chocolate, popcorn, or chips be so dreadful?

The first thing you need to keep in mind is that eating late at night affects the quality of your sleep. As your stomach is active, you won’t be able to sleep well. Additionally, if you eat snacks in bed, you’ll get crumbles all over your sheets no matter how careful you are! Crumbles can get into your pores and cause your skin to flare up. Lastly, grease foods and carbohydrates are one of the causes of acne and oily skin, so try to avoid eating such food, especially before bed!

4. Drinking alcohol or coffee in the evening

Our guilty pleasure drinks such as a glass of wine, beer, or cocktail can make us feel magnificent. Light dizziness they cause helps us relax and doze off into the land of dreams. However, such beverages can affect the quality of our sleep, which later affects our skin! On top of that, alcohol dehydrates your body with also influences the way your skin looks and feels.

But what about the coffee? Isn’t it good for you? Coffee has numerous benefits for your health, body, and mind. It can minimize muscle inflammation and wake you up in the morning. However, if you consume it later in the evening or before bed, caffeine can affect the quality of your sleep and therefore ruin your skin!

5. Sleeping next to your phone

As technology advances, we become one with our electronic devices. Many people keep their phones always by their side, even when they are using a bathroom! So, it’s no coincidence some people even sleep with phones by their side! If we neglect the story about device radiation for a moment, sleeping with or next to your phone can still have numerous negative effects on your body!

Like we mentioned previously, we take our phones everywhere. But when was the last time you cleaned or disinfected your device? Our mobiles are the ideal breeding ground for bacteria and dirt. Therefore, using them before bed might lead to dirt on our faces which causes pimple breakouts.

6. Working in bed

Many individuals who are working remotely have a habit of working in bed. Whether you decide to work in bed in the morning or check your emails before sleep, it can affect your beauty sleep and your skin altogether. How?

Besides the negative effects of electronics on our bodies, screen lights make our eyes tired but don’t allow us to fall asleep. On top of that, working in bed can cause additional stress. Even when you put your laptop away, you’ll still be thinking about all the tasks you should do and things that are coming, which is causing a lot of stress. As you probably know, stress influences the quality of your sleep as well as your skin! So, don’t work in bed, for your own sake.

7. Not washing your face before bed

Showering before bed is great for relaxing your body and mind. It can help you wash all the stress away and have a more peaceful sleep. However, many people neglect washing their faces before bed. Even though washing your face in the shower is not recommended, especially if you use hot water, cleaning it once you step out of the shower is beneficial.

If you wash your face with colder water, you’ll be more refreshed and remove all the dirt and debris that’s been piling up your face the entire day. This will prevent clogged pores that can quickly turn into pimples, acne, or redness on your face!

8. Not keeping your skin moisturised

Besides washing your face in the evening, you should keep your face moisturised. You’re probably aware that not everyone has the same skin type. Therefore, not every moisturiser will be suitable for you. Whether your skin is dry, oily, or sensitive, you need to keep an eye for moisturisers that will work for you.

Also, don’t forget that different weather conditions differently affect your skin. So, choosing a moisturiser according to the season is the best thing you can do for your skin. Moisturise your skin before bed to wake up refreshed and ready to tackle new obstacles!

9. Using too many scented creams

You probably know how important a before-bed skincare routine is. A lot of people, besides washing and moisturising their faces, put many night-time creams or cosmetic products that don’t contain natural materials. Even though in some cases such cosmetics help you clear up your skin, in others, your skin may be in danger!

If you want glowing skin, include natural ingredients in your routine. Create your own home remedies with stuff most people commonly have in their homes and enjoy your beautiful soft skin. You’ll save money and improve your skin at the same time!

10. Accepting light and noise

You may be wondering what do the light and noise have to do with your skin during beauty sleep. However, the correlation, even though it isn’t direct, it’s pretty obvious! If you sleep in a noisy environment in a lit-up room, you won’t get a good night’s sleep! A bad night’s sleep then affects the way your skin looks in the morning. Is there anything you can do about it?

As you can mostly control the conditions inside your home, regulating the outside environment isn’t possible. However, accepting the state as it is, ruins your skin! So, the best you can do is minimise these negative effects by installing block-out blinds such as those made by Marlow and Finch. They block the light and noise coming from the street while allowing you to have a much-needed rest in peace and quiet.

11. Not drinking enough water

Whether you’re physically active or not, drinking enough water is vital for your health. As our bodies’ mass is 70% made out of water, which is why it’s extremely important to stay hydrated. During the night as we’re asleep, we don’t drink water. However, you can make it up by drinking plenty of water during the day!

There’s a strong link between hydration and sleep. If you drink enough water during the day, your skin will stay moisturised and elastic during the night. On top of that, staying hydrated will help you have a good night’s sleep which will allow you to completely rest. No matter how much you take care of your skin and sleeping schedule, never underestimate the power of water!

Conclusion

These are the most common mistakes people make daily. To keep your face looking young and fresh, avoid doing these things and replace them with healthier and better behaviours that will lead to glowing skin. Keep in mind that your skin won’t clear up overnight, so be patient and trust the process!
